Alan Varela, a former professional footballer and current manager of the Portugal national team, has passed away in Porto, Portugal. He was 59 years old.

Varela began his career as a defender for several clubs, including Porto, where he played for 18 years before retiring from playing in 2007. After retiring from playing, he became a coach and managed several teams, including Sporting CP and FC Porto.
